The following page lists many common problems with 12V 4×4 and ATV winches used in off-road recovery situations. For each class above and below, several possibilities are listed reasons with possible solutions to get your favorite winch up and running again. Also confirm Winch Maintenance at the end of the sample page.

    STATUS POSSIBLE CAUSE REPAIR
MOTOR ONLY POWERS ONE WAY (1) Faulty solenoid or wedge solenoid (1) Solenoid Jar to decouple. Test this by applying 12
volts to the nailer terminal (it should make an audible click when power is applied to
    )
    (2) Faulty remote kill switch (2) Disengage winch clutch, disconnect remote hold switch and jumper pins from 8 to 5 o’clock. the motor must be running. The handles move at 8 and 10 o’clock. The engine
    should be running.
ENGINE RUNNING VERY HOT (1) Long operating point (1) The cooling time is necessary to prevent overheating.
MOTOR IS RUNNING BUT INSUFFICIENT POWER OR
    LOW SPEED
    (1) Low battery (1) Check AC voltagecar battery under load. 10 If the voltage is or less, replace another battery or in parallel.
    (2) Bad connection (2) check battery cables for corrosion; and light lubrication.
    (3) Wrong charging system (3) Replace with a higher capacity charging system.
ENGINE IS RUNNING BUT THE DRUM IS NOT RUNNING Clutch is spinning (1) definitely not done (1) If the clutch is engaged but the sign is still there,
the winch must be taken apart to determine the cause and
    repaired.
MOTOR NOT WORKING (1) Faulty solenoid or solenoid (1) tight can solenoid to ease contact opening. Test the solenoid by applying
12-15 volts to the coil terminal (it actually makes an
    audible click when energized).
    (2) Broken remote control switch (2) Disconnect the i465 winch clutch, remote control switch
disconnect the plug from the new outlet and jumper for 2 and 4 hours.
The motor should be running. Pins from They poop at 8:00 and 10:00. The engine
    should be running.
    (3) Faulty motor (3) If solenoids are working, check voltage at anchor station; Replace engine. Free
    (4) Connections (4) Connect internet access to the bottom of the hood and therefore to the
    engine.
DAMAGED BY ENGINE WATER (1) Immersion in sewage or water after
high-pressure washing of used cars or trucks
    (1) Drain and dry carefully, then run the motor
without load in short pulses until the windings are dry.
CABLE DRUM IS NOT ROTATING FREE OR WOUND HIGHLY (1) Clutch not disengaged (1) Check clutch operation according to nameplate. Make sure the
shift lever is in the “OUT” position.
    (2) Winch not directly mounted, blocking end bearing to real drum (depending on model) (2) Inspect the assembly to make sure you followed the installation instructions.
Sprocket retainers and are incredibly tight cap screws (depending on the model) (3) Remove the transmission kit cover, 413018, and all gears
from the transmission. Disengage the i465 clutch and see if the wedding wheel spins by hand. If not, loosen all hex screws slightly,
    then retighten them crosswise
but do not overtighten. The gear ring must be rotated by hand. Raise the winch.

    Solenoid Troubleshooting

    winch troubleshooting guide

You can test a specific winch solenoid by doing a walkaround to see if the issue is with the switch or the small sample solenoid. Also, using each cable with 12 gauge wire, jump off the +12V battery and connect the green wire to our magnet. The winch should only work in one direction. Then connect the +12V wire to the black wire from the solenoid. If the winch does not work in another control, then the magnet has big problems.

The direction of the winch, whether retracted or retracted, depends on what the experts say, whether twoThe magnetically amplified junctions are connected to a 12V power supply with a lead wire. If the winch only moves in one direction, check the connections that look like solenoids and make sure they are not corroded and making good contact.

How do you check a winch contactor?

To find out if the contactor is working, take somewhere the green wire that comes out of the contactor and touch it – to the red (positive) terminal of the affected contactor. There should be a loud click inside the contactor when the ground wire touches the red terminal.

To test the motor, connect a +12V wire to each of the two motors. The motor must run in both directions. If it works in both manuals, you know the motor is fine and the problem is probably with the switch or solenoid.

Why is my winch just clicking?

If it’s just a quick flick it’s tedious to shoot, unfortunately it doesn’t have enough power to deliver. If it “clicks”, can pull and your engine is not running, I would check the winch locating system on each battery/frame ground. You can also check the positive and negative traits.

Inspect the cable before and after each winch operation. If the ship’s line is bent or the new line is worn, the wire line must be replaced. Also be sure to inspect the winch hook and lock pin for signs of wear or damage. Replace if necessary.

Don't suffer from crashes and errors. Fix them with ASR Pro.

Do you have a computer problem? Youíre not alone. In fact, over 60% of computers suffer from some kind of error or crash at one point in time. ASR Pro is the best solution for fixing these problems and getting your PC back up to speed. Click here to get started:

  • 1. Download ASR Pro and install it on your computer

  • Keep winch, cable close to cable, control switch free of fibers. Use a clean bamboo towel or cloth to remove dirt and debris. If necessary, unwind the capstan (leave at least 5 turns in total) around the spool drum), wipe it dry and store it properly before putting it away. Using LGT oil on a cable, rope, and even a winch hook can prevent rust or corrosion.

Using the winch for extended periods of time puts a strain on the vehicle’s battery. Also, be sure to check and maintain the battery and its cables according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. Also inspect the switches and all electrical appliances to make sure they are clean and tight.

How do you test a winch solenoid?

With any voltmeter, touch the large contacts next to the solenoid with the winch off. The two large bolts may be on the winch side of this solenoid. The voltmeter shows even a dozen volts when the solenoid is definitely working.

Inspect the remote control for damage, if any. Be sure to cover the remote control socket to prevent dirt and debris from getting into the sockets, for example.
